Keeping my fingers crossed

I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm hoping to avoid this awful stomach bug that has taken up residence at our home for the last few weeks. It hit Connor and Maleah in the same week, the next week it hit Connor again causing me to pick him up at school, then it hit Brian last Thursday. To top that all off, Connor came down with strep throat. So far, I've been very lucky to have avoided these nasty bugs, but bugs seems to know they can't win battles against Moms. :-)

I haven't had a whole lot to blog about, other than sickness, and not alot of people want to read about that so I'll blog about the happenings of Connor.

Connor came running to me in hysteria this afternoon after swallowing a small watch type battery. His Pediatrician is out for 2 weeks, the backup is out on Wednesdays, so I just called Poison Control Center. They suggested I take him to the emergency room to see if it lodged in his esophagus, where it would corrode the battery, or if it passed to his stomach. Xrays confirmed that it passed to his stomach and will pass safely within a few days. Fun days ahead of inspecting his stool.

Cell Phones

You wouldn't think so, but cell phones can be resilent when it comes to water, especially toilet water! Maybe it's because of the shock value when one falls in and there's that desire to get it out as fast as you can?

Brian had it happen to him with his company phone, and Connor accidently dropped mine while trying to go to the bathroom Friday morning. It seems like there is a pattern going on with men, cell phones and toilets at our house...

I thought all was lost with my slider phone, but after 24 hours of drying out, things are now working perfectly! I couldn't be happier. :)

Random thoughts

Are you being hounded by those political phone calls? I came home for lunch today and "sadly" managed to miss 3 calls. No easing up the rest of the day, we got another call at dinner time. We had enough and took the phone off the hook after that point. If you need to call us between now and Wednesday, call our cells. :)

On another note, Brian found a tick fastly secured to Maleah's head! It was one of the large wood ticks, like the kind you pull off your dog if you slack at putting on the Advantage every month... Yeah, on top of being bad parents, we're also bad pet owners. ;-) We pulled the tick, and called Dr. Ann. She said since it was one of the larger wood ticks that she wasn't too concerned about it carrying Lymes Disease. We need to watch the site for another few days to see if there are any complications. (Justine, I have the tick if you want to examine it)

I just love it when a childless coworker gives indirect comments about parenting... Evidently, I "need" to have better back for when my kids get sick.... Connor was sick on Tuesday, but, but I did have my Mom come watch him while I went to work. Come Thursday, Maleah was sick but my Mom was in the hospital with chest pains, so what was the logical thing to do? You got it, stay home.... Evidently, she doesn't see it that way. She's mad for not getting the pat on the back she thought she deserved for going the extra mile with me out of the office and now she's pouting.... Gotta love working with women!

And finally, for over a year, I've tried coming up with a color to paint my bedroom. I settled on a brown, started painting and it's too dark. I have new bedding coming this week and I'm going to try to pull some greens from it. Why is this paint project so hard? I would love for Vern Yip from Deserving Design come and delight me with a bedroom makeover!
